Obesity and Diabetes research is connecting the two diseases.. Keeping active yourself and encouraging children with Diabetes to be active is eve more critical. Physical activty helps insulin work more effectively because it requires less insulin to balance the carbohydrates consumed. So, children can and should lead more physically actives lives.
- At school, kids can monitor their insulin levels and then participate fully in Physical Education and sports. The important key here is to keep hydrated (water, not juice or soda)
- Stay away from those sugary, empty calorie snacks - choose fresh fruit instead.
- Daily goal - 30 to 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physcial activity. That includes walking 6-9K steps.
